It’s now official. Precise dates and procedures for the multi-part Sunrise process were announced last Tuesday at the ICANN meeting in San Juan. Here is what you need to know.
From October the 9, 2007: Sunrise 1 , reserved for registration of names by Governments and Public Bodies within the DotAsia region as defined by ICANN ( 73 countries listed by ICANN).
Geographic names will be activated during this period will last until the landrush period (Febuary 2008). "First come, first served" basis will be applied.
From October the 9 to October the 30, 2007: Sunrise 2a , reserved for intellectual property holders for trademarks and service marks registered and currently in use and applied for prior to March 16, 2004.
Required documents : documentary evidence is not mandatorily required, but required upon request.
From November the 13, 2007 to January the 15, 2008: Sunrise 2b , reserved for intellectual property holders for trademarks and service marks already registered and applied for prior to December 6, 2006.
Required document: documentary evidence is not mandatorily required, but required upon request.
SR2a requests will be considered as priority request over SR2b, SR2c or SR3 requests.
From November the 13, 2007 to January the 15, 2008: Sunrise 2c , reserved for intellectual property holders for variants of trademarks and service mark names already registered during SR2a or SR2b with punctuation marks variations or a generic term added.
For example: a registered mark for "ABCD" (with ABC.Asia) under a specific class may therefore apply for "ABC-chemicals.Asia".
SR2b requests will be considered as priority request over SR2c or SR3 requests.
From November the 13, 2007 to January the 15, 2008: Sunrise 3, reserved for names of companies and organizations within the DotAsia region as defined by ICANN. (73 countries listed below.)
Required document: documentary evidence of registration will be required.
Auction process : during this entire sunrise period (SR2a or SR2b or SR2c or SR3), if several candidates get validation for the same domain, registry will process auction.
February, 2008 (provisional date) : Landrush. Anyone meeting the DotAsia charter eligibility requirements may apply for any domain name. Premium prices will apply during this period.
March 2008 (provisional date) : Go Live . Anyone meeting the DotAsia charter eligibility requirements may apply for any domain name on a first-come-first-served basis.
SR2a requests will have priority over SR2b, SR2c, SR3 requests
This new .ASIA schedule gives priority to SR2a, SR2b or SR2c or SR3.
In other words, if a SR2a request get validation for a specific trademark, the same domain will not be available in SR2b or any other sunrise period.
WIPO Standard 3 as a reference
DotAsia notice that any trademark located in one of the countries listed by WIPO Standard 3 (included France, US and all the Asian pacific countries) will be allowed to register trademarks in .ASIA extension.
