European registry EURid calls upon registrar community to help suggest and enact improvements to the .EU registration and management system.
Members of the new .EU Requirements Panel in EURid's Belgium headquarters
The first meeting of the new "Requirements Reference Panel" was held last week, July 5, at EURid's headquarters in Diegem, just outside the Belgian Capital of Brussels.
Through the panel, EURid hopes to continually improve the way it works with and services its sales network of nearly 1,000 accredited registrars. The .EU registry has met with some criticism in the past for not consulting with registrars on procedures and developments. The Requirements Panel is therefore seen as a strong signal towards a more open and mutually beneficial relationship between the registry and the registrars.
This should obviously also have significant impact on the .EU end-users as the more efficient the registration process, the better the level of service .EU name owners will get.
Representing the registrar community
Hoping to make its Requirements Panel as effective as possible, EURid selected seven .EU registrars to sit on the panel and asked them to act as representatives of the registrar community as whole, fielding any requests other registrars may send them.
The panel plans to hold meetings once a quarter and will work through a collaborative forum in between meetings.
Proposals will be subject to a vote and if approved, passed on to EURid. The registry has pledged to act on the proposals as long as they stay within the scope of its own development program and do not go against the Public Policy Rules, the European Commission's official regulations for .EU.
• G8 The seven registrars selected by EURid to sit on its Requirements Panel are Ascio (Denmark), E Zone (Belgium), Home (Poland), Indom.com (France), Key Systems (Germany), RegisterIt (Italy) and Strato (Germany). An eight registrar representing the US should be joining the panel soon.
