Up to now, domain names in Malaysia were restricted to third level extensions such as .COM.MY or .NET.MY. The second level .MY domain will become available in March 2008.
A pre-launch period has been announced by local registry MYNIC. From November 1, 2007, a Sunrise will help owners of existing third level .MY domains protect themselves at the second level.
Names already registered under .COM.MY, .NET.MY, .ORG.MY, .EDU.MY and .GOV.MY can be applied for directly under .MY.
Only the exact pre-existing name can be applied for (for example, the owner of abc123.com.my can only apply for abc123.my). And only if the pre-existing name was registered before October 26, 2007.
Registrations are restricted to Malaysian entities and individuals.
