According to local registry InternetNZ, after seeing constant growth on .NZ for the last three years, New Zealand's Internet suffix reached the 300 000 mark on September 26, 2007.
Usage of New Zealand's naming space is also on the up. The country now boasts a similar ratio of names per citizen (6.5 names for every 100 Kiwi) to European countries like Belgium, Sweden or Norway.
+20% new .NZ registrations per year
Local domain Name Commissioner Debbie Monahan points out that the rate of growth of 20% per year shows no signs of abating. New Zealand's last domain milestone was reaching 200 000 names in September 2005.
.NZ domains are open to local and foreign registrants through second level extensions: CO.NZ (80% of .NZ domains), NET.NZ, GOVT.NZ, GEN.NZ, CRI.NZ, IWI.NZ, MIL.NZ.
