SGNIC, the registry for .SG, is introducing numbers-only domain names. A Sunrise is already underway. A bidding period follows starting January 18. Full launch is planned from March 27, 2008.
Numeric domains will be available in all of Singapore's available extensions: .SG, .COM.SG, .ORG.SG, .NET.SG, .EDU.SG, .GOV.SG, .PER.SG.
The launch timetable:
November 5 to December 28, 2007: sunrise period Acceptance of .SG numeric domain names applications. Multiple applications for the same name may be decided by auction.
January 4 to January 17, 2008: Post Sunrise Consolidation and Sorting Confirmation of bidding cases and letters sent out to bidders.
January 18 to February 22, 2008: Bidding Period Bidders will vie for those names which the .SG registry has termed "premium numeric names" defined as numbers with a greater perceived value. There will be 4 categories of premium numbers: Platinum, Golden, Silver and Ordinary.
Platinum domains are single-digit names like 1.sg where the initial bid will have to be at least S$40,000. Only ten such names are available. At the other end of the scale, the minimum bid for ordinary names is S$200.
Actual bidding will be conducted online from 10am to 5pm on February 20, 2008 (all times are local). Bidding results to be announced on website on November the 25, 2008.
Finalised domain names will be activated on March 26, 2008.
Starting the next day, March 27, at 9am local time, all non premium numeric domains will become available for registration on a first come, first served basis.
