The group in charge of recruiting the best candidates for ICANN's top jobs is seeking the help of an outside organisation to cope with its increasing workload.
The Nom Com holds public meetings like this one (during the Los Angeles ICANN meeting) to let people know what it's been doing
ICANN's Nominating Committee (Nom Com for short) is responsible for identifying new board members and representatives of the many internal committees and groups that make up key elements of the ICANN structure.
23 volunteers operate within the Nom Com to find the candidates best suited to these top positions.
But the shear scope of the Nom Com's mission is forcing it to seek assistance. " In the past, the size of the applicant pool has been slightly less than 100, and the candidates have come from 35 to 50 countries in all regions of the world," explains ICANN. "Until now, the Nom Com has performed this task without outside assistance. However, the amount of work is very substantial, and the 2008 Nom Com has decided to explore the possibility of obtaining outside assistance for an initial, globally harmonized candidate assessment phase."
Interested parties have until December 21, 2007 to send their application to ICANN. Applicants have to meet several criteria and ICANN takes special care to point out that "contact with the candidates should be structured on the basis that the candidates will often be senior professionals and should be accorded the courtesies and considerations appropriate for their stature." "Such contacts should leave the applicant with a positive view of both ICANN and the assessment experience," ICANN adds.
