Internet rumours point to a possible move by Google to stop monetizing any domain if its less than 5 days old, effectively putting an end to any Google-related profit from domain tasting.
If there's any truth in the story first published by Domaintools, Google may have just taken a bold move against domain tasting. By cutting out any possible revenue stream from tasted domains, Google will make the practice of registering a domain name and releasing it within the 5 day "Add Grace Period" so as to avoid having to pay for it, much less worthwhile.
Apparently, it's Google's intention to stop monetizing any domains less than 5 days old by the end of February.
A move that, for some, signals the end of tasting altogether (a hasty conclusion in our view as there are other ways of monetizing domain names outside of Google), but that would also be a surprising one for Google. After all, whether names are tasted or not, Google makes a lot of money from their monetization...
Update: Google's intentions against domain tasting seem confirmed. In a story published by AP, a Google spokesman speaks about the proposed anti-tasting policy.
