The Czech capital of Prague is hoping to become the venue for the European round of the 2009 ICANN meeting programme.

Each year, ICANN organises 3 international meetings in different regions around the globe. The meetings help ICANN reach out to the Internet community worldwide and are also the place where key topics such as creating new Internet domains or fighting domain-name-related abuse are discussed.
ICANN's first international meeting of 2008 was held last week in New Delhi, India. The year's second meeting will take place in Paris, from June 22 to 27, while the third and final meeting of 2008 will be in Africa (the venue has yet to be finalised).
After this June's Paris event, Europe will also get to host an ICANN meeting next year (there won't be a European date in 2010 however). ICANN is looking into possible venues for the October 25 to 30, 2009 meeting and Domaines.Info has learned that Prague has come forward as a candidate.
Local registry CZ.NIC's General Manager Ondrej Filip is pushing for Prague to get the last ICANN meeting date of 2009 (the previous two meetings will be held in the Latin American and Asian Pacific regions) and has apparently already made a strong case for Prague. However, the Czech Capital may face competition from Serbia's Belgrade and Spain's Barcelona for the 2009 European date.
