Serbia's .RS opened for business on Monday. Domaines.Info has exclusive stats on the new extension's first week.
We spoke with the local registry, who expressed satisfaction at the way the launch has gone. Nearly 8,000 domains have been registered, about half under .RS directly, 20% for the .CO.RS subdomain and about the same for the .IN.RS domain (aimed at individuals), and the remaining 10% covered by all the other subdomains combined.
Nearly 7,000 names were registered within the first hour of the launch.
"We're happy with those numbers because they represent about half the active .YU domains (Serbia is transitioning from Yugoslavia's old .YU suffix to .RS – ed)," the registry told us. "There are about 40,000 .YU names, of which less than half are active."
27 registrars registered names during the launch period, with about one name being registered every second during the first 30 minutes of the launch.
