CZNIC, registry for the Czech Republic's .CZ, has just passed the 400,000 domain mark, thanks in part to a simplified registration system.
In October last year, CZNIC introduced a new, simpler, registration system. Since then, over 74,000 domain have been registered. "About half the names were registered by companies and the other half by private individuals," comments Pavel Tuma project manager for CZNIC.
"We migrated to a brand new registry system at the end of 2007 and the new features we introduced - less data to fill in when registering a domain, a simpler registration process and easier handling of data in the registry system – led to higher registration volumes."
According to Domaines.Info's stats, .CZ is now eastern Europe's third largest extension behind .PL (Poland, 892,428 names) and .AT (Austria, 735,590 names). Hungary's .HU is 4th with 360,000 names.
