Chinese registry clarifies transfer rules

The Chinese registry is determined to ensure that local registrars do not block their customers wishing to transfer names away.

It would seem that some Chinese registrars don't always play by the rules when it comes to domain name transfers. The Chinese registry CNNIC has just sent them all a circular reminding them of their basic obligations when customers want to leave them for another registrar.

Basic CNNIC rules are that customers are free to transfer their names as long as they are at least 60 days old and are more than 15 days away from their expiry. There should also not be any outstanding fees owed to the current registrar, and the domain in question should not be the subject of any dispute.

CNNIC also felt the need to remind its local registrar network that upon receipt of a transfer request, they should send the necessary Auth Code to the domain owner within 3 days, and they should not charge anything for this service.
