ESNIC to introduce anti-phishing procedure which includes possible deletion of domains used for phishing attacks.
Around the world, Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) monitor the web for attacks against corporations, governments or official institutions. Spanish registry ES NIC has just signed an agreement with Spanish CERT Instituto Nacional de Tecnologia de la Informacion (INTECO) to implement anti-phishing measures.
Under the new system, any potential phishing threat can be reported using a dedicated email address. INTECO will then check the threat to see if it is real. If so, and depending on INTECO's report, ESNIC may then decide to cancel the domain name involved. It will then become available for registration on a first-come, first-served basis.
