The .EU registry will run a new advertising campaign in selected European countries at the end of June and is working on introducing accented domains next year.
Towards the end of the month, or early July at the latest, web surfers from Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Finland and the UK may well chance upon a .EU ad banner. EURid is launching a new campaign aimed at raising awareness around .EU.
Unsurprisingly, the campaign will centre around .EU's European potential with two main themes being retained: "Time to get a truly European Internet address" and "One European market ... Does your domain name reflect that?"
The target countries were identified as showing strong growth potential for .EU. ".EU does not yet feature among the top 3 extensions in their respective domain name markets," says EURid. "Several of the selected countries are also, coincidentally, the largest markets for .EU."
IDNs for 2009 ?
Further down the road, EURid hopes to introduce accented .EU domains in 2009. Domaines.Info has learned that the project is currently being reviewed by the European Commission, whose approval is required by EURid.
