CityTLDs are fast becoming a major new type of TLD as is shown by the announcement of a .ROMA and that 5 CityTLD initiatives have petitioned ICANN for the creation of their own constituency.
Italian company Roma TLD S.r.l. confirmed Rome's interest in the creation of a .ROMA TLD as it put its dedicated website online to explain the project.
Similarly to other CityTLD proposals, .ROMA aims to promote Rome on the Net, its businesses, its identity and its citizens. Roma TLD CEO Massimo Ralli, who is also involved in the .NYC initiative, told DomainesInfo that his company is working hard to seek the official support of the City of Rome.
Roma TLD also plans to join dotCities, an informal group founded by .BERLIN, .PARIS (for which INDOM is acting as consultant to the City of Paris), .BCN, .NYC and .HAMBURG to promote their CityTLD projects.
The same aforementioned 5 CityTLD initiatives have also just submitted a request to ICANN for the creation of a new City TLD constituency under the GNSO's restructuring process.
